Matang Gejia Village is located in Longchang Town which is 21 kilometers away from Kaili City. There are more than 400 people living in Gejia Village. People who live here have their own unique costumes, tourists can enjoy the beautiful batik and embroidery of Gejia women in this ethnic village.


Gejia Culture


Gejia is a minority ethnic group to be identified in China Guizhou. It does not have their own words. Gejia people claim themselves as descendants of ancient legend hero Houyi. They have their own language, costumes and lifestyle.


Costumes


Gejia women’s clothing is exotic. Teenage girls normally wear a red cap, after they get married, they will wear a corolla style headdress, a batik embroidered floral dress and a pleated skirt. Their headdress is drawn with a picture which describe the story of “Hoyi Shots the Suns”.

Gejia Batik


Gejia Batik has a very long history. These quaint and generous batik patterns are most of the beasts and flowers, it fully reflects the desire of Gejia people for a better life and their love of nature. Gejia women have a specific talent in batik technology. According to the customs and rules of Gejia, when the girl is five or six years old, she must learn to make batik and embroidery. When the girl is married, the clothes she wears are made by herself.
