Suoga Miao Eco-museum is located in Longga village of Suoga Township ,which is about 60kms away from Liuzhi Special District. It was built in 1998. With a population of 4,000 the Miao here is nicknamed as ‘Long-horn Miao ’, which is a typical one among 100 Miao subgroups. Long-horn Miao has their own language differing from other s and typical costumes. Their history is recorded on the women’s costumes,particularly on their hair styles. Long-horn Miao inhabits in the isolated mountains over 2,000 meters. Till now , they still keep on their typical traditional culture of long-horn hairstyle, they live in a natural way that men farming the land and women weaving clothes. Intermarriage is still kept among Miao. Traditional festival named Flower Dancing Festival happens every year, which provides opportunities for young people to socialize and court with each other. Long-horn Miao has their own musical and dancing style, so as their intricate wax-resist.
The concept of Eco-museum came out in France in the 1970s, originally aiming to retrospect and repristinate disappearing culture. In the 1990s, he idea of Eco-museum was brought into China. The first eco-museum in China was constructed in Longga village of Liuzhi Special District in Guizhou in 1998. The museum is an alive committee based on village, with no wall’s surrounding. It emphasizes on protecting and keeping the reality, completeness, originality of culture.
