Huangping Miao Clay Whistle is a kind of toy developed on the basis of the Miao traditional whistle. The method of making this Clay Whistle is to use a local clay to be hand-kneaded into a general shape, apply the lettuce oil to shape, use a simple tool such as a bamboo stick or a bamboo tube to press out the eye, mouth, nose and other details, then use the hard mold to press the required small decorative pattern, dry it with wood chips or chaff, apply the color, and cover with varnish. Its shape is based on animals, such as lion, elephant, tiger, leopard, panda and so on. At present, there are more than 400 varieties.
In terms of shape, artists are good at capturing the animal's modality, grasping its main features, and exerting rich imagination, boldly using exaggerated deformation techniques. With regard to color, Huangping Miao Clay Whistle is painted with contrasting colors: black is the base color that with red, yellow, green, blue and other colors to draw patterns.
