Dong is a minority of China.This group of people main lives in eastern Guizhou,western Hunan, and northern Guangxi in China.
Clothes
Minority people commonly have their own specific clothes. In terms of Dong clothes, the main color is green , blue, white and purple. Women are with different costume in various locations. They always wear a big lap robe with a skirt or pants , put on a belt and headscarf. In contrast to women, men who live in the remote mountainous areas wear in no-collar short coat , sometimes wear a headscarf.
Language
There is no doubt that Dong has their own specific language. Their language is a tonal language which is divided into two dialects. One is the southern dialect and the other is northern, which is divided by Miao-Han mixed line, the territory of Jin-Pin county in Guizhou. The tone is different in dialects.
Gastronomy
Dayoucha(Oil Tea)
Dayoucha is a popular food of the Dong people and also special food for guests on luckily days.
Production process
1) First fry some rice in tea-oil until it turns yellow;
2) Mix tea leaves into the pot with some water to boil, the tea thus made has a mellow and strong smell;
3) Put the boiling tea water into the bowls with fried cooked rice, soya beans, glutinous rice cakes and sesame and some salt , or even some chopped shallot, singer bits and Chinese pepper.
Yanyu( Salted fish)
Yanyu is another typical traditional food of the Dong ethnic group with special delicious salty and hot taste.
Production process
1) Select a living fat carps, take out the intestines;
2) Cover the fish with table salt and then stuff the mixture of chilly and glutinous rice into he carps;
3) Put the mixture and fish into a wooden barrel layer and layer, cover it with palm leaves, seal it with rice straw and then put a stone on it;
4) Wait for three months, this delicious food is accomplished.
Festival
In terms of festivals, the Dong people have more than 100 festivals during the year. There are not only festivals that are common to all ethnic groups , but also festivals of individual village. Such as: Fireworks festival, Festival of Eating newly ripe grains, Ganshe Festival and so on.
Architecture
The villages of Dong are generally surrounded by the mountains with terraces, long rivers and towering trees.Drum Tower is the most distinctive building of Dong. The small village has one or two and the large village has four to five. In addition to , thanks to the lot of river, there are many bridges in the place where the Dong people live. Wind and rain bridge is famous for its unique artistic structure and superb architectural skills.
