This festival is a commemorative festival. The legend of the festival is attacked the sovereign of the feudal class, praised the working people . The day before the festival, people have already killed the livestock , entertain the villagers untill midnight. On that day, people wear the beautiful clothes for the ceremonious festival, gather together to exchange the agricultural and sideline products.
On the occasion of the festival, the Dong girls in the field can be seen everywhere. They wash and chop the leaves of wormwood, smash the bitter water, mix them with a specific bacon(made by Dong people in a specific way), pork belly and peanuts, cook in a bowl, boil glutinous rice to a half-cooked, then mix into the fried bacon and wormwood, stir well, cook on a warm fire, and serve as a rice(Shefan). Shefan is aromatic and delicious.
The Ganshe Festival has been used to remind people to save food. Shefan is mixed with wild vegetables, which means that the lacking food season is coming. In another legendary, after the Ganshe Festival, the summer hear is near and mosquitoes are everywhere. The Shefan is eaten to avoid mosquito bites and diseases.
